Expanding Mandrel Force Gauge for Oil Pump Cover Workholding
A major US automotive manufacturer contacted TAC Rockford for a force sensor to measure the holding force of an expanding mandrel (internal gripping expanding collet). The customer needed a way to accurately verify expansion force of the mandril workholding system for preventive maintenance and setup purposes.
TAC Rockford supplied a ForceCheck display and a sensor that slides over the mandrel. The gauge provides a digital readout of force in the workpiece-clamped position. This allows machine setup personnel to ensure repeatability during turning operations, as well as provide early detection of potential problems with the hydraulic clamping system or expanding mandrel mechanism.
